Relax

“So, what are you going to do after dinner?”

“Nothing. Maybe relax with a book”

” What ?! There is so much to do. We have only 7 days left before our 2 day vacation”

“I just booked the hotel. We are all set. What else is there to do?”

“Well here’s a list for you…while I work on my list”

  1. Hold mail
  2. pack bags
  3. call dog-sitter
  4. buy sunscreen
  5. book a shuttle to airport
  6. inform neighbourhood watch
  7. empty fridge
  8. set up timer lights
  9. blah blah

“Got it…So , what are we going to do at the beach?”

“Nothing. Maybe relax with a book”

Anyone else feel that preparing for a short vacation away from home – to do “nothing” –  is sometimes not really worth the stress and effort and cost?

Happy thanksgiving to those in the US – whatever the origins of this holiday, I’m thankful for a day off.

  1. Funny. We cause ourselves so much stress in the pursuit of relaxation don’t we?

  7. Dear Ansumani,

This sounds like the weekend we just had. Minus the beach of course. Getting ready to go is always the most stressful part of potential getaways.
    Nicely done.

No matter where the tradition started, there’s always room to be thankful. Happy Thanksgiving.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  9. Oh boy, for 2 days? I’m not even sure I’d bother with a plan. Pack phone and Kindle chargers, maybe 🙂
This is why I don’t take holidays away. Far too much stress!

  12. I’m the list maker and the more we travel the shorter the list gets and the less I pack. Keeping it simple. Good story.
    Enjoy your day off,

  15. Sooo true…
You have hit on one of the many reasons I love the very part of the world in this picture – we can throw stuff in the car (specifically swimming costume, bottle of sun-cream, half a library) then just drive there.

  17. I can relate. I have a huge list before we go camping. You’d think we were staying for a month instead of two nights.

  18. A 2 day vacation? That’s not a vacation, that’s not even worth the effort. Great story, too true for many I’m afraid.

  20. This is why the first two days of vacation are all about sleep.

  21. I see your point. Our lives are so complicated these days, it’s hardly worth going somewhere for only a couple days. I used to laugh when my mom told me her sister spent every day of their vacation cleaning the fish her husband caught. Mom said she herself never learned how to clean fish. Well done, Ansumani. 😀 — Suzanne
