“We should meet”, she says to her long-time phone date.
“I’m ugly.”, he says
” Beauty is skin deep”, she says already in love with his silky voice and generous heart.
“Even children run away from me”, a sad laugh.
“Because they don’t know to look someone in the eyes, see deep into the soul where true beauty lies”, she says.
Sitting across him at the cafe she struggles to look him in the eye. It would have helped if the other eye wasn’t where the ear should be, she thinks.
Beauty ,unfortunately, matters.

Thank you Shivangi. Unfortunately, there are a lot of unconscious ways humans (and animals) prefer beauty.

Poor guy. We place too much importance on beauty. I hope she can get over the way he looks.

Poor guy indeed. Even those you do not place a conscious importance on beauty cannot control their unconscious biases against the ugly sometimes. Thanks for reading

Dear Ansumani,
I love where you went with the prompt. I wonder how he sees with the eye where his ear should be. Very well done.

Thank you Rochelle. I wonder too ..but let’s just assume he sees out of the one eye in the center of his face and uses the other to check out the next table 🙂

🙂 I shouldn’t grin, but I’d been hoping for a more noble response from your character. Fine words, hey…?

Why are my women characters expected to be noble?! Why can’t they be shallow like the rest of the world? Why shouldn’t you grin 😉
ha ha. I know what you mean. I was trying to make her accept his ‘ugliness’ but she resisted. “It’s a nautral human instinct to prefer beauty”, she says.

Hm. that’s serious disfigurement. Maybe he should have sent her a picture for warning first. Sadly, looks do matter.

It would take a lot of getting used to. It’s a shame there wasn’t money or some other way to get expert plastic surgery. I’ve seen pictures where even this kind of extreme deformity could be fixed. Well done. —- Suzanne.

Plastic surgery can help but the poor or relatively poor can’t afford it. Thanks for reading Suzanne.
